How to Whiten Coffee Stained Teeth
There are 4 main ways to whiten coffee stained teeth. Some of them are all natural. Others you’ll need to seek a dentist.
Before we get into the various method on whitening your coffee stained teeth, consider rinsing out your mouth with water every time you have a cup of coffee. Of course, brushing is even better, but with the amount of coffee most of us drink that’s not very plausible.
Baking Soda & Peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide is an oxidizer. It stimulates the out layer of the tooth, the enamel, and helps release the staining components in the coffee off from teeth.
The baking soda is the booster. It speeds up the process and increases the hydrogen peroxides effectiveness.
Making the teeth whitening mixture is much simpler than making coffee using an Aeropress. Add a few drops of hydrogen peroxide in a cup, then add your baking soda and stir it until it becomes a paste. Which is very little of each. Remember, you’re making only a small amount.
Teething Whitening Kits
We have all seen online, in commercials and at your grocery store next to your regular tooth paste. There are endless selection of different types. They are essentially using the same ingredients as the hydrogen peroxide paste discussed previously.
Keep in mind many dentist don’t recommend some of the LED teeth whitening kits. Other studies shown that they do provide results but they remove a bit of the enamel layer (LED study). Therefore, they should be used infrequently. Read the reviews carefully and buy a reputable brand if you choose this form of teeth whitening.
There are 2 other main types of whitening kits.
- Liquid Gel Packs
- Whitening Strips
Liquid Packs
Liquid packs come with a mouth guard and a liquid gel pack. You add the gel into the mouth piece. One guard piece for the top and another for the bottom. Most packs come with the gel in a syringe, so it’s not messy when applying.
Depending on the brand and type you get, it could be anywhere from 20-40 minutes. Afterwards you just rinse and brush. Done.
Again, depending on which type you buy will let you know how long you have to repeat the process in order to see results.
Whitening Strips
I personally use Crest Whitestrips for over 5 years now. I use it about once or twice a year and have been happy with the results.
