How we review coffee makers and espresso machines
Reviews are written from the machine on the counter and the coffee in the cup, then checked against what other owners report. A review covers five things:
- What the machine makes. Drink menu, grinder, milk system and controls, taken from the manufacturer’s spec sheet.
- What it costs to own. The current US retail price, plus filters, cleaning tablets and milk cleaner over a year.
- How much upkeep it needs. Cleaning and descaling intervals come from the manufacturer’s manual, not from memory.
- What goes wrong. Common faults and error codes, drawn from repair shops, service partners and long-term owners.
- Who should skip it. Every pick keeps its cons on the page.
Where the numbers come from
- Specs and part numbers come from the manufacturer’s own US product pages and manuals. If a part number can’t be confirmed there, it isn’t on the page.
- Prices are checked at major US retailers each time a review is updated.
- Owner experience comes from long-term owners on forums such as Reddit’s r/superautomatic. A single owner’s story is treated as a data point, never as a spec.
How we review coffee
Coffee reviews follow the same pattern every time. We buy whole beans and pods at Costco and Amazon, brew them at home, and write up first impressions, what stays in the cup, who the coffee suits, and the price per ounce so bag sizes compare.
Replacement parts and supplies
Filters, cleaning tablets and milk cleaners are hard to find by part number, so every machine review lists the exact parts it uses, how often each one is replaced, and the bulk pack sizes offices buy.
