First Impressions
The first thing we noticed about Theo Blend was the bean size. The beans vary more than we expect from a specialty roaster. The color is even across the bag, though, which points to a careful roast.
Freshly ground, the aroma is cinnamon and leather, with a hit of black pepper.
What’s in the Blend
Caffe Vita, a Seattle roaster, built Theo Blend with Seattle chocolate maker Theo Chocolate. Caffe Vita says it designed the blend to pair with chocolate, while still standing on its own as a daily cup.
Caffe Vita lists the origins as Peru and Honduras, washed coffees of various varietals, all certified organic. It calls the roast medium to dark with a deep, rich body, and lists tasting notes of dark chocolate, baking spice and dark berries. Costco’s listing adds that the beans grow at 1,500 to 3,000 meters and ship in bags made from renewable materials. Caffe Vita does not publish roast or body scores for this blend.
Drawbacks
- Amazon charges more than the roaster. The 12 oz bag is about $1.91 an ounce on Amazon against $1.67 an ounce direct from Caffe Vita in September 2026.
- Costco sells it online only, and only as two 2 lb bags. That is 4 lb of whole bean coffee at once.
- The origin listings disagree. Caffe Vita now names Peru and Honduras, while Costco still names Peru and East Timor.
- Our bag had uneven bean sizes, which can make the grind less consistent.
Who It Is For
Theo Blend suits people who want a spicy, chocolate-leaning medium-dark cup from certified organic beans. The Costco 2-pack fits an office or a heavy-drinking household, and the roaster’s 5 lb bag is another bulk option.

How to Brew It
Caffe Vita does not name one best method for Theo Blend. It grinds the beans to order for French press, cold brew, drip and espresso, so match the grind to your brewer.
| Method | Grind |
|---|---|
| French press | Coarse |
| Cold brew | Coarse |
| Drip machine | Medium |
| Espresso | Fine |
