Tour the Brew Central Plus
Tap a number to see what each button and part does.
1Top lid
Opens to the water reservoir, the filter basket and the charcoal water filter. Water goes in through a wide front channel, and a window on the side shows the level. Wait 10 minutes after brewing before you open it.
Shop water filters2Built-in scoop
A coffee scoop sits in a slot in the top lid. Use 1 level scoop per cup, up to 15 tablespoons for a full pot. Owners say it falls out when the lid opens, so many keep it in a drawer.
3Display
Shows the clock, the Auto On and Auto Off times, the warming plate setting (L, M or H) and an icon when the ready tone is off.
4Bold
Brew strength control. Press it for a bold pot, again for regular. The light above the button shows bold is on.
5Temp
Sets the warming plate to low, medium or high. It changes how hot the plate keeps the pot after brewing.
6Prog / Auto On
Hold it for 2 seconds, then set a start time up to 24 hours ahead with Hour and Min. Check that the light above it is on before bed.
7Tone
Turns the ready beep on or off. A speaker with an X on the display means the beep is off.
8Over Ice
The setting the older CBC-7400PC did not have. Fill the water only to the 10-cup line, fill the carafe with ice to its 10-cup line, then press Over Ice.
91-4
Use it when you brew 4 cups or fewer.
10Brew/Off, Auto Off
Starts a pot now or stops it. After brewing, the warming plate shuts itself off after 0 to 4 hours, your pick.
11Clean
Lights up when it is time to descale. Fill the reservoir with 1/3 white vinegar and 2/3 water, hold Clean until it flashes, then run one pot of plain water.
12Brew basket
Loads from the top, under the lid. It holds the gold-tone filter that comes in the box, or a #4 cone paper filter if you want no fine grounds in your cup. Brew Pause stops the drip for up to 20 seconds while you pull the carafe for a cup.
Shop filters13Glass carafe
Holds 14 cups, with markings from 4 to 14. It is the part Costco owners complain about most: coffee dribbles down the side when you pour.
See the carafe fit14Warming plate
Keeps the pot hot at the Temp setting until auto-off. After about two hours on it the coffee tastes burnt, so set auto-off to 2 hours or less.

Should I Upgrade From the CBC-7400PC
No, a working CBC-7400PC does not need replacing. The only new feature on the CBC-8500PC is Over Ice.
Upgrade if your CBC-7400PC died, or if you make iced coffee at home often enough to want a setting for it.
If only the carafe broke, replace the carafe. Cuisinart lists its DCC-2200RC carafe for the CBC-7400PC, and it costs far less than a new machine.
Drawbacks
- The carafe dribbles. It is the top complaint in Costco’s reviews: coffee runs down the side when you pour, the snap-on lid is hard to seat, and it leaks when you use the carafe to fill the reservoir. One owner who brews 4 to 6 cups says it only drips from a pot of 12 cups or more. Several owners use the carafe from their older Cuisinart instead.
- The built-in scoop falls out. The scoop sits in a slot in the lid, and 20 owners say it drops out when they open the lid. Many keep it in a drawer.
- It is tall. The CBC-8500PC stands 14.9 in, and the lid opens upward. Five owners say it does not fit under their cabinets, so measure first.
- Costco sells no parts. Not the carafe, not the water filters, not the gold-tone filter. Everything is listed below.
- Seat the basket and the carafe lid. On Cuisinart’s 14-cup Costco models, a basket or carafe lid that is not fully in place lets the basket overflow. The manual also warns that permanent filters from other brands can overflow.
- The hot plate burns coffee left too long. The plate keeps the pot hot by heating it the whole time, and that heat keeps cooking the coffee. It tastes best in the first hour and burnt after about two. Auto-off can run up to 4 hours, so set it to 2 hours or less.
Replacement Parts and Supplies
Costco sells the machine and nothing that wears out on it. These are the parts the CBC-8500PC uses, with Cuisinart part numbers.
The carafe is the open question. Cuisinart lists its 14-cup DCC-2200RC carafe for the CBC-7400PC and has not listed the CBC-8500PC yet. We are confirming the fit with Cuisinart and will update this page.

Is the CBC-8500PC Worth It
Yes, the Costco-exclusive CBC-8500PC is worth it. It is an affordable coffee maker that gets the job done, with more features than most drip makers at its price. Owners report paying $40 to $65, depending on Costco’s sale price.
Owners rate it 4.4 stars at Costco and praise its heat, taste and timer. The complaint that keeps coming up is the carafe dribbling when you pour.

Common Cuisinart Brew Central Plus 14-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker CBC-8500PC questions
What carafe fits the Cuisinart CBC-8500PC?
Cuisinart has not yet named a replacement carafe for the CBC-8500PC. Its 14-cup DCC-2200RC carafe fits the CBC-7400PC, the model the CBC-8500PC replaced, and an older Cuisinart 14-cup carafe usually fits too. Call Cuisinart at 1-800-726-0190 to confirm before ordering.
Does the Cuisinart CBC-8500PC have a water filter?
The Cuisinart CBC-8500PC takes a charcoal water filter that goes in the reservoir. The manual calls for Cuisinart's own charcoal filter, sold as the DCC-RWF 2-pack. Cuisinart says to replace it every 60 days or 60 uses, and Costco does not sell refills for the CBC-8500PC.
What size filter does the Cuisinart CBC-8500PC use?
The Cuisinart CBC-8500PC uses a #4 cone paper filter or the Cuisinart gold-tone filter that comes in the box, according to its manual. The manual warns that permanent filters from other brands can make the CBC-8500PC overflow. Use 1 level scoop of coffee per cup, up to 15 tablespoons.
What are the common issues with Cuisinart coffee makers?
The Cuisinart CBC-8500PC carafe tends to dribble down the side when you pour, mostly from a full pot. The built-in coffee scoop can fall out of its slot when you open the lid, and the carafe's snap-on lid is hard to put back on. Keeping the scoop in a drawer solves that one.
What is the difference between the CBC-8500PC and CBC-7400PC?
The Cuisinart CBC-8500PC adds an Over Ice button that the CBC-7400PC does not have. Both are 14-cup Costco-only drip makers with Bold, three warming plate settings, a 1 to 4 cup setting and self-clean. The CBC-8500PC also comes with a redesigned carafe that tends to dribble when you pour.
